Four months on: is Roblox any safer?

Four months ago, our investigation into Roblox revealed adults and children mixing freely in virtual spaces, with sexually explicit content easily accessible to young users.

Roblox has since rolled out a number of safety updates. We’ve returned to the platform to explore these changes and assess their impact on children’s safety.

We welcome the progress – Roblox appears to have made genuine improvements in blocking the most inappropriate content from young users. However, the core issue remains: adults and children can still interact without meaningful separation. The risks haven’t disappeared; they’ve simply moved to less obviously problematic spaces.

We’ve put together an updated guide to Roblox with our detailed findings.

If and when Roblox announces its next round of safety updates, we’ll be back to test whether they finally address this fundamental issue.

But our main advice to parents is this: don’t rely on platform promises or research reports – including ours – to decide if Roblox is right for your child. Create your own account; it only takes a few minutes. Spend time in the spaces your child uses. Listen to the conversations. Then make your own informed decision.
